SEMINAR
Artprojects, Nature, Ecology and Climatic changes.
A discussion between artists and scientists.
Saturday 27th. February. from 11 A.M to 4 P.M
The seminar will start with 4 artists introducing their art- projects, followed by scientists who will analyze the projects, and start the discussions. With 4 art projects as starting point for discussion we intend to delve deeply and focus on interesting questions like sustainability, ethics, the role for the artist to play, the relationship of visual art (artists) to science, Art as a tool of change in the society, the artist as co - actor or rebel, the use of resources in perspective of the environment etc.
The questions coming in focus will be of interest on a general level for all the participants who mainly will be artists. The seminar will have "roundtable" flat structure, not a panel. This enhances everybody to take part in the discussion and relate from their experience and point of view, This makes the discussion more challenging and interesting.
The artist who will present their art-projects are Johannes Bienemann, Reinhold Engberding, Toril Johannessen and Caroline Ho-Bich-Tuyen Dang.
Rasmus Benestad, Senior Scientist, Norwegian Meteorological Institute and Adrienne Goehler, curator and author, will open the discussion.
Rasmus Benestad http://www.eoearth.org/contributor/rasmus.benestad, His introduction for this seminar is " I am involved in the climate debate because I believe it is important that there is a voice that represents the climate research community. The debate has been dogged by many misunderstandings and errors, and it is the scientists' responsibility to provide the best knowledge about the topic. I have some experience participating in the climate debate in Norway, and internationally through the blog www.RealClimate.org. In some ways, I think that we - the scientists - have come to short when it comes to communicating to the public, and it is important to reduce the barrier between science and the rest of society. Climatic change affects us all, and there are more dimensions to it than just science. It is therefore important to involve a broader aspect of our society, such as artists."
Adrienne Goehler http://www.culturebase.net/artist.php?3953 For the time being she curates the international art project "RECOMMENDED FOR IMITATION!". The project's exploration of AESTHETICS & SUSTAINABILITY points to a way in which artistic activity can contribute to the planet's existing order. It demonstrates an artistic standpoint, where the boundaries between art, activism, innovations and experiences are dissolved and where the environmental aspects are considered within an artistic approach. Sustainability requires an expanded view of interaction.
Johannes Bienemann, Lecturer, video-art, digital handling of picture and theory in Contemporary Art at the History of Art Institute at The University of Kiel. He will introduce his art-project with focus on a special aspect of nature: the human condition of perception. The perception of the different sights of the world - and the more and more quicker transfer of informations and pictures of it - are changing the spaces of our experience.
Caroline Ho-Bich-Tuyen Dang,www.artistlink.info migrated to Australia as a refugee with her family in 1978. After forging the beginnings of her artistic career she again migrates to another country, Norway, in mid 2007. Her artistic practice has focused on concepts of change and permanency by using aspects of the surrounding environment as a tool.
